WHITE PAPER RESEARCH

"... [A] long waiting period for a treatment negatively impacts the patient's experience and may diminish the quality of care."

Today, it is widely recognized that a well-designed healthcare process must provide timely and easy access to healthcare facilities for all patients. A 2022 survey found that 61% of patients skipped going to the doctor in the past year because scheduling an appointment was too much of a hassle.

COMPETITIVE ANALYSIS

Competitors were not family-oriented and lacked personalization

MyDoc aims to revolutionize the digital health space by addressing key areas where competitors fall short. Unlike existing apps, yours will provide users with a comprehensive and personalized health experience. Users can track a wide array of health metrics, including physical activity, nutrition, sleep, stress, and mental well-being.

USER INTERVIEWS

Interviewees expressed frustration getting a hold of doctors and filling out patient check-in forms

After conducting interviews with 5 working parents, I found that most of them have not had a seamless experience scheduling appointments for their families. The responses were based on the questions below:

  • How do you currently schedule doctor's appointments for your children?

  • Can you describe the challenges you face when trying to schedule appointments?

  • What frustrations or difficulties do you encounter in the current appointment scheduling process?

  • How comfortable are you with using technology to manage healthcare-related tasks?

  • What devices do you primarily use for managing your family's health?

INSIGHTS

Parents express frustration finding convenient time slots and coordinating multiple family schedules.

After interviewing, I gathered my responses and documented on post-it notes to create an affinity diagram in order to get a better understanding of common themes. Some of the major insights from this interview are illustrated below:

Anne is a mom who works all day

She has a kid but no time to play

She needs a way to take care of her health

But often struggles to do it herself

REFLECTION

Things I would do differently next time...

Throughout this process, I've learned a lot about empathizing, researching, and prototyping. Looking back, there are a few things I would do differently to make my project more successful.

  1. Frequent User Testing: Implement regular user testing throughout the development process to gather continuous feedback and make iterative improvements. Conduct more comprehensive initial research to understand the specific needs and pain points of young professionals even better.

  2. Additional Iterations & Wireframing: I would incorporate more frequent and detailed iterative testing cycles. By testing early and often, I can identify and address issues before they become larger problems. Additionally, I would create more detailed wireframes, including low-fidelity sketches and high-fidelity prototypes, to better visualize and refine the user interface and experience before development begins.

  3. Comprehensive Data Collection: Gather a wider range of data points and user feedback to create a more comprehensive affinity diagram. This would provide deeper insights into user needs and behaviors.

  4. Early Integration of Accessibility Standards: I would integrate accessibility standards and best practices from the very beginning of the design process. This includes adhering to guidelines such as the Web Content Accessibility Guidelines (WCAG) to ensure that the app is accessible to users with disabilities. Embrace inclusive design principles to create an app that is usable by people of diverse abilities.

REFLECTION

Things I would do differently next time...

Throughout this process, I've learned a lot about empathizing, researching, and prototyping. Looking back, there are a few things I would do differently to make my project more successful.

  1. Enhanced Onboarding Experience:I would develop a more comprehensive onboarding experience to guide new users through the app’s features. This would help users quickly understand how to utilize the app’s functionalities effectively.

  3. Integration with Insurance Systems: I would explore integrating the app with insurance provider systems to allow for real-time verification of insurance details, ensuring accuracy and reducing the need for manual confirmation.

  4. Comprehensive User Support: I would set up a more comprehensive user support system, including chat support, a detailed FAQ section, and tutorial videos, to assist users in navigating the app and resolving issues quickly.

  5. Enhanced Accessibility Features: To ensure that MyDoc is accessible to all users, I would implement robust accessibility features, including comprehensive support for screen readers and voice commands. By enhancing compatibility with screen readers, visually impaired users can navigate the app more effectively.
